Do you know what your business is worth, either for potential sale or transfer to partners, the next generation, or for purposes of calculating your estate tax liability?
As with apples and oranges, no two businesses are identical. Our business valuation services can help you develop an accurate idea of your company’s value so you can plan accordingly.
How does it work?
Business valuation is a process and a set of procedures used to estimate the economic value of an owner’s interest in a business. Valuation is used by buyers and sellers to determine the price they are willing to pay or receive to effect the sale of a business.
In addition to estimating the selling price of a business, the same valuation tools are often used by business appraisers to:
- Resolve shareholder and IRS disputes
- Assist in divorce proceedings, including forensic accounting
- Establish a formula for estimating the value of partners’/shareholders’ ownership interests for future sales or other transfers
- Set a value to be used in connection with gifting of interests
Often business owners want to understand the value of their business as they start planning for retirement. Knowing what it’s worth now can be a reality check for those contemplating a sale in the near term.
